The dawn of Russian higher education: the number of foreign students in Russia has increased and continues to grow
On July 05, 2022, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation announced that the total number of foreign citizens receiving their higher education at Russian universities has increased significantly over the past three years by more than 26,000 students. The greatest number of students coming to Russia to receive higher education are from India (16,7 thousand students) and Egypt (12,4 thousand students).
In 2021, the total number of foreign students in Russia amounted to 353,000, which secured the 5th place for the country. It's worth noticing that the difference in the number of foreign students in the TOP-5 countries (USA, England, Germany, France, Russia) is actually very small: Germany and France have only 5,000 students more than Russia. Considering the ever-growing interest of foreign students in studying at Russian universities, and the progress over the past 3 years, we can definitely say that in 2022 Russia will confidently take the 3rd place in the world in terms of the number of foreign students. According to our calculations, the number of foreign students in Russia will increase by another 25,000 in 2022/2023 academic year.Medical programs are the most popular and sought-after among international students.
