Privolzhsky Research Medical University
Founded in 1920, Privolzhsky Research Medical University is located in the city of Nizhny Novgorod. The founder of the university is the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.
The university’s structure includes five main faculties:
- medical;
- pediatric;
- dental;
- preventive care;
- pharmaceutical;
- faculties of continuing education and international education.
The educational programs cover all levels of higher and postgraduate education: specialist’s and master’s degrees, clinical residency, PhD, and professional development programs.
PRMU is not only a university but also a scientific and clinical center of federal significance.
Its structure includes a university clinic, simulation centers, and research institutes: the Institute of Pediatrics, the Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics, the Institute of Dentistry, the Institute of Fundamental Medicine, the Institute of Preventive Medicine, and the Research Institute of Experimental Oncology and Biomedical Technologies.
The university actively participates in the implementation of the national Priority — 2030 program: in 2025, Russia’s first interdisciplinary center for medical polymer materials was opened, and strategic projects in the fields of oncology, mental health, and regenerative medicine are being carried out.

Over 600 professors, including members of the Russian Academy of Sciences, doctors, and candidates of sciences, work at Privolzhsky Research Medical University. The total number of students exceeds 7,000, with around 2,000 international students from 60 countries.
The university offers more than 200 educational programs, including narrowly specialized and original courses developed to meet the current demands of the healthcare system. Starting from the first year, the university conducts practical training at clinical bases, utilizing an electronic educational environment and modern simulation technologies.
In 2025, the university successfully underwent international accreditation and significantly expanded its network of partnerships, signing agreements with more than 30 universities of the CIS, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. Special emphasis is placed on academic mobility: students, clinical residents, and professors participate in internships at foreign clinics and research centers.

The university is actively implementing digital services, including the development of mobile solutions, remote learning platforms, biometric systems, and joint projects with leading technological companies.
Student life
The university is located in the city of Nizhny Novgorod, a major administrative, cultural, and educational center of the Volga Federal District, situated at the confluence of the Volga and Oka rivers.
It is a modern, rapidly developing city with a population of over one million people, which combines well-developed infrastructure, a rich historical and cultural heritage, and comfortable living conditions.
Student life at PRMU is vibrant and diverse. The university offers its students comfortable dormitories, modern academic buildings, laboratories, simulation centers, and sports facilities. Scientific conferences, forums, and project schools, including those with international participation, are held annually.
PRMU actively supports cultural, volunteer, and sports initiatives. Student clubs, medical groups, and creative associations are active on campus, and concerts, escape rooms, charities, and educational events are organized regularly.
