In training of highly qualified specialists, more attention is given to individual phases, which allows students to realize their full potential.
A highly qualified medical staff is a special pride of the university:

High-level academic lectures are held in classrooms and laboratories with innovative equipment. Modern multimedia and realistic simulators are used in every class.
ASMU is the only Russian university where it is possible to study General Medicine (MBBS), Dentistry (BDS), and Pharmacy in Russian, English, and French.
The main principle of training is the unity of theoretical and practical classes starting from the first months of studies. To practice their theoretical knowledge, the students do internships under supervision of the best doctors in the following medical centers:
- Federal center of cardiovascular surgery;
- A.M. Nichogi regional hospital for infection diseases;
- Clinical maternity center;
- Center for protection of health, family, and reproduction;
- 20 more hospitals in the Astrakhan region.
During the internships, students get the unprecedented experience necessary for training in General Medicine (MBBS), Dentistry (BDS), and Pharmacy, and also participate in complex surgeries. Also, the possibility of treating real patients is one of the advantages of studying at the university.
The Innovations and New Technologies Counsel is successfully working at the university. Its recommendations and scientific developments are used in different medical facilities.
They pay a lot of attention to additional possibilities of education:
- In Astrakhan State Medical University there are 20 leading scientific schools in pharmacology, infectology, biochemistry, microbiology, immunology and allergology, gastroenterology, pulmonology, surgery, coloproctology, etc.
- There is a research center with genetic and immunological laboratories, student project office, technology and innovation support, etc.
- The university cooperates with leading foreign and Russian centers of higher education, the Minister of Healthcare of Russia, scientific centers of the Russian Academy of Science and with scientists from Russia, Italia, Slovenia, Kazakhstan, Iran and Malaysia, etc.
The university owns more than 40 innovation projects awarded with medals of different Innovation International salons. COVID-19 identification system patented there was included in the list of “100 best Russian inventions”.
International cooperation is another development priority of the university. For now, it has established partnerships with eleven universities from nine European, American and Asian countries. The students have a possibility to participate in international competitions and get research grants.
Students may increase their professional competences by participating in “Young scientists and students’ society” projects. It includes challenging and interesting research work, study of newest innovative medical developments, communication with the industry experts and possibility to publish your own research articles.
The university awards graduates a diploma of the Russian national standard, which certifies the receipt of higher education and indicates the degree/qualification and specialty received.
Student life
In Astrakhan, where Europe and Asia meet and different cultures interact, you may feel the unity of multinational Russia. Due to these peculiarities, students from different parts of the world adapt to a new life easily and smoothly.
International students live in rooms for 2–3 people in seven student hostels or rent apartments. In student hostels, the necessary furniture and bed clothing are provided by the hostel’s administration for the whole period of study. All hostels are located in 20 minutes’ walk from the University campus.
Cozy cafes and shops are located near the hostels, so every student may enjoy all this infrastructure like at home.
At their leisure time, students practice sports or their vocal or dance skills. University festivals, holidays, and competitions will be a good opportunity for you to demonstrate your talents.
“Alma Mater”, the university’s newspaper, plays an important role in students’ life. You may challenge yourself to become a journalist and write an article about something that is important to you.
