Peter the Great Saint Petersburg Polytechnic University

The academic staff of the university consists of 25 academicians and members of the Russian Academy of Sciences and more than 500 doctors of science. All of them participate in training of more than 30,000 students from 115 countries. There are also 200 professors, scholars, and practitioners from abroad who are regularly working at the university. Every year many famous scientists from prestigious international universities come here to give lectures, seminars and participate in research work.

Professors of the university participate in international research programs, internships, and conferences. Scientific and practical activities, publication of research results in authoritative scientific international magazines allow the university professors to develop a scientific dialogue with foreign colleagues, share professional experience and fill their lectures and seminars with relevant knowledge.

One of the main principles of the educational process at the university is the obligatory participation of students in research work of the university’s departments and centers, laboratories of the Academy of Sciences and branch research organizations.

The university has 112 educational buildings with modern multimedia systems and laboratory equipment. The Fundamental Library of SPbPU is at the disposal of the students. It has one of the largest library funds — about 4 million storage units. The library offers students electronic access to various information resources and international industry scientific publications. Annually, students undergo internships in the leading Russian and international companies. They can gain valuable scientific and practical experience from the leaders in the relevant industries: state unitary enterprise “Admiralteyskie Verfi”, JSC “Zvezda”, Boeing, EMC International Company, Ford Motor Company, LG Electronics, FMC Technologies, Huawei, KITECH, and many others.

The university actively promotes its students’ scientific and research activities. 43 scientific and educational centers, a technological park and a business incubator successfully work at the university. There is the Center for Scientific and Technical Creativity of Youth, where they aim to help students to implement bold technical ideas and projects. “Fab Lab Polytech”, the first open high-tech workshop for young people in the North-West of Russia, is a part of the global network “Fab Lab”.

SPbPU cooperates with more than 350 universities from 64 countries in the sphere of scientific research and professional training. Every year it holds more than 30 large scientific symposiums and conferences of international scale. Students have a possibility to learn from honored Russian and international scientists, winners of Nobel Prize and “Global Energy” prize. Multi-level collaboration with foreign universities is a priority for SPbPU. Now it cooperates with 14 institutions of higher education in China, Germany, Italy, Great Britain and other countries.

The university regularly hosts open lectures and workshops given by famous scientists and recognized experts in engineering. Meetings with representatives of large companies give students a great opportunity for direct professional interaction with industry leaders.

Peter the Great Saint Petersburg Polytechnic University pays great attention to the academic mobility of students, organizes internships abroad. Due to established partnerships with leading universities and participation in the international program “Erasmus+”, students have an opportunity to apply for educational grants in the EU countries, Asia, Africa, USA, and others.

The university awards graduates a diploma of the Russian state standard which certifies the receipt of higher education and indicates the degree/qualification and specialty received.

The university has its own sport teams: basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, chess, rock-climbing, which often participate in competitions. Also, it is possible to go to the training complex for individual work-outs.
